Hortisculptures combines natural materials with man-made sculptural forms that are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. My work varies between small and large scale sculptural work, and building and landscape projects. All with an underlying ethos of respect and appreciation for the environment.
Hortisculptures is an attempt to stimulate an alternative view, reminding us of our relationship with the natural world.
The nature of the work undertaken by Hortisculptures to date has evolved from a variety of disciplines including, fine art, blacksmithing, horticulture and green building. The mixed skill-set required to undertake each new project effectively means that I am constantly discovering innovative methods of working with a range of materials, from wood and metal, to stone and glass.
To date I have also worked with a variety of alternative technologies including solar, alternative fuels and living roofs. This experience coupled with the range of materials which often need to be employed to execute projects enables Hortisculptures to consistently take a more holistic approach to design and realisation of objects, structures and spaces.
